Our Transgender Group
TRANSGENDER SUPPORT/PSYCHOTHERAPY GROUP CELEBRATES FIRST ANNIVERSARY!

March 2003 marks one year since IPG started the only transgender support and psychotherapy group in New Jersey. Ironically, although New Jersey is one of the most pro-trans states in terms of legislation and civil rights, up until last year people on the transgender continuum had to go to New York City to receive counseling or to communicate with their peers in the community.

In this past year our group has grown tremendously in size and resources. We’re proud that our group is balanced to include FTM’s, MTF’s, cross-dressers, and all other people who have a non-traditional gender identity. The group has helped its members exchange information, form friendships, and explore the direction most appropriate for them. We’ve also invited partners/spouses and helped with issues in the transgendered person’s support network. And, we’ve developed a list of medical professionals who can help, as well. Our goal has been reached: we want all people with non-conventional gender to feel at home and to know there is a welcoming place for them in the world. We want to help each other to have hope; and find just what rhythm our personal drummer beats.

IPG/Institute for Personal Growth runs the only transgender/counseling support group in New Jersey. We provide help for people who:
  • Are confused or uncertain about their gender identity
  • Have a non-traditional gender identification
  • Cross-dress
  • Are at various stages of the transitioning process
The group meets on the third Sunday of each month from 4-6 pm at our Highland Park offices. The doors open at 3:30. On-site dressing facilities are available.

The group is co-facilitated by a licensed social worker, a registered nurse, and a peer counselor active in the transgender community. Fees are on a sliding scale and most insurance is accepted. NO ONE WILL BE TURNED AWAY FOR LACK OF MONEY.

PLEASE CALL DEBBIE WILLIAMSON, RN, ASSISTANT DIRECTOR AND GROUP CO-FACILITATOR, TO ARRANGE FEES AND FOR MORE INFORMATION.
