Remember the Young Urban Professionals who became Double Income No Kids couples? Recently the media has become fascinated with what DINKS have evolved into: “DINS” – Double Income No Sex. Talk shows have featured it, The Sex-Starved Marriage is number three on Amazon’s bestseller list, and Wall Street Journal writer Sue Shellenbarger has been deluged with mail since writing a column on DINS in April.
Whether it is a new or merely newly discovered phenomenon, DINS seems to strike a chord with couples of all sexual orientations and lifestyles, and it is also clear that DINS’ relative - SINS - Single Income No Sex – is quite common.
Sex therapists are no strangers to DINS; for nearly two decades, low frequency of sex has been the most common complaint of couples seeking help for sexual problems. Earlier this year, Dr. Margie Nichols, founder and Director of IPG Counseling and a Diplomate in sex therapy, wrote a paper designed to address the causes of sexless partnerships and offer a prescription for change. This month we feature her article for readers looking for a self-help treatment for passionless relationships: SEX 101 For Couples: Good News, Bad News
(And look for the feature article on this topic in the first issue of Growing, the newsletter of the Institute for Personal Growth/IPG Counseling)
